♠ Name: Emery Benjamin King. ♠ Blood: Half-blood. ♠ Age: Twenty-six. ♠ Gender: Male / wizard. ♠ Subject: Charms. ♠ Best Subject: Transfiguration. Muggle Studies. ♠ Worst Subject: Divination. Herbology. ♠ Appearance: At 5’10” in height, you could describe Emery as a very average individual. He’s not eye-catching and he’s never been one to turn faces in a crowd, so he settles for the fact that he is rather plain. Of a relatively normal height, if you ever happened to speak to him about how tall he is, he’d happily inform you that he’s very content with just how boring he is. He’s not short enough to be classified as a midget, nor is he tall enough to be seen as lanky or a beanpole; in his eyes, 5’10” is a lovely height and he’s enthralled with the fact that he’s not one inch taller or one inch shorter.
Emery’s skin is a pale peach in colour, possibly mixed with a hint of creamy white. In the winter, his flesh has more of a waxy look to it, whilst it tans rather easily in warmer months, and it has a few blemishes on it, particularly on his face. He’s not too fussed about his skin, in all honesty; as long as he remains presentable, he’s fine with himself. The one thing he doesn’t like is how noticeably pale he goes when he’s ill. Like most people, he loses colour in his face, but whenever he does feel sick, he always reckons that he looks like a walking dead person. You’ll never hear him describing himself as waxy or pale when he’s ill, the chances are that you’ll hear him calling himself ‘a living dead man’.
The male’s eyes are blue in colour, and there’s nothing more I can really say about them. They are a bit bright in the light, but they’re not exactly icy or watery, and they’re certainly not eyes that can stare into your soul or whatever it is people say nowadays. He doesn’t like his eyes; they feel too grand to be a part of him, and he’d much prefer to have brown or green eyes. Grey wouldn’t go amiss, either, but then he’d probably complain that his eyes are the colour of ‘bloody concrete’ and spend half the time moaning about them instead of teaching a class.
One way to describe the professor’s hair is by using its colour: brown. It’s as uninteresting as the rest of him, although to spruce it up slightly, you could always say it’s woodland brown in colour… even though that would be a bit of a lie. Emery’s hair is nothing special; it’s a dull light brown in colour, and the only thing interesting he ever does with it is gel it up when he has the time - which isn’t often. Usually, however, he leaves it flat on his head, and he only ever cuts it when it goes past the tips of his ears. If there’s one thing that annoys him, it’s long hair on men. Call him old-fashioned, but it’s true - whenever he sees a lad with long hair, he wants to whip out his wand and cast some sort of incantation to make scissors attack them and cut their hair.
Build-wise, he’s pretty much stocky with a bit of muscle. As stated before, he’s average in height, and so he’s not exactly fat or incredibly skinny, he’s somewhere in-between, and he’s comfortable with it. No, he doesn’t have a six-pack, so don’t ask. His stomach is relatively flat, but it wobbles slightly when he runs (no, he’s not toned, either) and the only noticeable muscle is around his shoulders, which are reasonably broad. Other than that, Emery is pretty much ‘average’, yet again. He doesn’t work out, so you can’t expect him to be trim and dapper - he hates exercise, anyway.
Overall, Emery is a rather plain individual. He only wears staff robes when he’s teaching, and underneath them, he wears a pair of jeans, black shoes and some sort of t-shirt or shirt. Casual in the way he dresses, his half-blood parentage has seeeped into his sense of style and clothing; when he’s out and about in Loch Ness (whenever he goes with the school or at the weekend), you can see him loitering around in a jacket, jeans and a shirt. He doesn’t like formal clothes, they make him feel all stiff and uncomfortable, but he will reluctantly wear such items of clothing if the occasion calls for it. ♠ Personality: A notable thing about Emery King is how easy-going he is. He rarely raises his voice, he doesn’t like punishing his students and it takes a lot to get him angry. Perhaps this is a bad thing, but he sees it as one of his positive traits, and he quite enjoys not being uptight and fussy about his job. He likes to think that he and his students have a mutual understanding regarding each other - if they respect him, he’ll respect them. That’s how it works in his classroom, anyway, and he’d like to say that it’s been a success thus far.
One thing he is guilty of is picking favourites, however. He likes the intelligent, quirky kind of student who gets on well with him - the kind that enjoys having intellectual conversations and doesn’t mind talking to their teacher outside of lesson. Those kind of people are people that Emery thinks are a joy to teach, especially if they have a passion for Charms, much like he does. Passionate people are fun people, and he’s particularly fond of fun people, hence why he has a tendency to make a teacher’s pet out of at least one person in every class he has.
The male is a man who likes to laugh. The jokes he tells are overrated or so silly that people end up laughing at him, but he likes to entertain other people. He likes interesting lessons that don’t bore the kids he teaches, and he likes to give and receive respect, as previously stated. A part of Emery still has the mind-set of a sixteen year old boy, and he can act quite childish with classes that he gets on very well with, as well as colleagues that he feels he’s close to. He gets excited over small things, and he does tend to enjoy the simple things in life, like a sunny day or school closing early. Those things, as well as others, make him happy.
Although he’s not as simplistic as other people he knows, Emery does have a reasonably calm head on his shoulders. Despite this, he is relatively unorganised and rarely plans his lessons out due to his spontaneous nature. He can be halfway through a sentence when an idea suddenly strikes him, or a completely unrelated thought enters his head, and that’s it - he’ll switch onto that subject of conversation, or suddenly start teaching his class something completely different to what he was teaching them beforehand.
Emery is lenient. He doesn’t like too many rules and, as a former student of the academy, sympathises with the students and how strict the school is. Thus, he doesn’t punish kids he teaches as regularly as he should - he lets things slide on promises that the child ‘won’t do it again’, and even if they do reoffend, he’ll let it go and let it go until it gets to the point where he will (reluctantly) give them a (very short, think five-or-so minutes) detention. He’s never been fond of telling people off - it’s just not him.
A very kind person at heart, the twenty-six year old is incredibly observant and rarely fails to notice a change in the way someone is acting. He is a sympathetic individual who is quick to offer emotional support to anyone who needs it, be it a colleague or a student. Very unjudging in nature, even if Emery does have his various flaws (like, for example, the way he flatly refuses to do as he’s told when he thinks his way of doing something is the best way), he is - overall - a genuinely nice, pleasant person. ♠ History: - ♠ Ten Characteristics: + Easy-going. + Intelligent. + Observant. + Relatively focused. + Kind. + Unorganised. + Spontaneous. + Has a tendency to pick favourites. + Stubborn. + Lenient.
